The sun, our age, environmental factors all leave their mark on our skin. Photorejuvenation removes pigmentation, for example, age and sun spots, freckles, light birthmarks, and is used for facial flushing (broken capillaries near the surface of the skin.)

IPL light therapy is a cornerstone therapy for skin rejuvenation

Come in for facial flushing, pigmentation or we can tailor a full rejuvenation programme, tightening, brightening, plumping the skin with collagen building therapies. Visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles, leaving a more youthful appearance.

It’s all fun in the sun until the UV damage sets in

You would expect that living in Ireland means less UV damage, however; that is far from the case. Getting a bit too much sun on our sun holidays is something we are really good at. Sun Spots, which are a form of UV damage appear as brown patches. Freckles appear or multiply, the arms, back, chest and face are common as they spend the most time under the warming rays. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is the machine to remove the sun damage and rejuvenate the skin.

How many treatments are required to remove sun spots?

It depends on the individual, but on average three to five sessions is typical. People that fish, play a lot of outdoor sports or visit hot places frequently, may require more sessions.

How does the treatment work?

The IPL device emits a light spectrum that targets the haemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brown pigment in freckles and age spots). It passes through the epidermis and absorbed by the melanin or haemoglobin. The machine uses filters and customisable settings to target age spots or facial flushing. Melanin pigment is fractured and breaks down reducing the appearance of the brown spots. It is similar to superficial facial veins or flushing, the light damages the vein wall and is harmlessly absorbed into the body.

How long does it take to see results?

As mentioned, a course is normally needed consisting of 3 to 5 sessions. Each session is typically 4 to 6 weeks apart. You will see an improvement after each session, and individual results will vary. In a nutshell, the more sun damage or broken capillaries you have, the more sessions you will need. When you come in for your consultation, you will be given an estimation of how many sessions you will need.

Will the treatment hurt?

There is a mild discomfort and the first session is normally the worst. You will find as the sessions progress the treatment becomes more comfortable.

How long will each session take?

Depending on the size of the area being treated will gauge the session duration. On average treatment takes 30 to 90 minutes, with the longer treatment time typically being large areas of the back and arms.
